Subject: [SLAVLIBS] Section 108
Online Copyright Tool Now Available
All,
I
wanted to let you all know about a new tool that I developed with the support
and expertise of the ALA OITP Copyright Advisory Subcommittee that is now
available online. This tool is specifically targeted to assist librarians with
their questions about when section 108 of the copyright code (the library and
archives provision) applies. In general, this section allows for
libraries or archives (under specific circumstances) to 1) make copies of
portions of works from their collections for users, 2) make copies of entire
works for users, 3) make replacement copies of published works in their
collections and 4) make preservation copies of unpublished works in their
collections.
Please
bookmark this tool and share it with others in your libraries that might find
it useful (other subject specialists, interlibrary loan workers, people on
public services & special collections librarians). Also available is
a tool that can help you determine the copyright term of a work (or if it has
fallen into the public domain.
