The ARLIS/NA Board mourns the passing of Judith Hoffberg, who died on January 19th. Judith was a co-founder of ARLIS/NA and she served as the Society's first Chairman, as editor of ARLIS/NA Newsletter from 1972 to 1977, and as its Executive Secretary from 1974 to 1977.

In 1978 Judith founded Umbrella, a newsletter about artists' books and publications that had a transformational impact in the field. Umbrella grew to be the most important and comprehensive journal covering the broad area of artists' books.

Judith's many accomplishments and the founding role she played in ARLIS/NA will be celebrated at the Membership Meeting at the Indianapolis Conference.

We extend our sympathy to her family and to her many friends.
