I’d be grateful for suggestions of books that address the
dialog between contemporary craft and art in a critical and meaningful way.
One of our art faculty members recently received a teaching
excellence award that included funds to purchase books for our library. (Items bought
with these funds will carry a bookplate acknowledging his gift.) At his
request, I’ve prepared a list of likely materials in his areas of
interest, of which the craft/art discussion is one.
Here’s what I’ve collected so far on the subject:
Risatti, Howard A
theory of craft: Function and aesthetic expression (2007)
Anna, Fariello, and Owen, Paula Objects
and meaning: New perspectives on art and craft (2005)
Adamson, Glenn Thinking
through craft (2007)
Britton-Newell, Lauri Out
of the ordinary: Spectacular craft (2007)
Magliaro, Joseph, and Hung, Shu By
hand: The use of craft in contemporary art (2006)
Alfoldy, Sandra (ed) NeoCraft:
Modernity and the crafts (2008)
Johnson, Jean Exploring
contemporary craft: History, theory, and critical writing (2002)
Gustafson, Paula (ed) Craft
Perception and Practice (Vols. I-IIII) (2002-2007)
Off-list replies much appreciated.
