It's rather difficult - quick like that ! - but there's a pretty
impressive CD-ROM available about the Georges Eastman House, from
Macmillan, entitled
Photographers on Disc: an International Index
of Photographers. It's a CR-ROM. "
The CD-ROM includes
information on almost 600 public photography collections in the United
States, with holdings for particular photographers and firms
classified as major, substantial, or modest. Photographers featured in
some 3,300 American and European exhibitions dating from 1839 to 1995
are also included in the database, even if they were not reported by
any institutions." [

Also, I think this CD-ROM is somewhat available now Online and updated.
I never tried it but you might :

Hello,
Does anyone know of a good reference source

online) for bios of American photographers, especially 19th

early 20th century photographers? Or even better,

who specialized in shooting theatrical subjects? I am doing authority
work in the Folger’s photo collection and am finding that we don’t
have a good body of print resources pertaining to these areas, so if
anyone can
recommend something we could buy, it would be much appreciated. I am
aware of the Craig’s Daguerreian Registry website and the Broadway
Photographs site compiled by David S. Shields.
