The Art Collection at Mid-Manhattan Library is pleased to present two site-specific installations by the accomplished artist Ilene Sunshine. In Genie, Sunshine transforms discarded Christmas trees salvaged from the city’s sidewalks into a three dimensional drawing composed of over 100 cross-sectioned segments from the trees’ trunks. Genie hovers over the Art Collection’s reading area as a buoyant presence celebrating the library as an oasis, and a garden for the mind in our bustling city. The “Art in the Windows” installation will be a continuation of the same materials and concepts encountered in Genie. Donna Gustafson, art history professor and curator, will join Sunshine for an “Artist Dialogue” on Monday October 20th at 6:30 p.m. on the 6th floor. “Art Wall on Third” and “Art in the Windows” exhibition series are curated by Arezoo Moseni.
