I would also look into Nicholas Nixon's "People with Aids" book.
He was one of my professors during art school.
Here is the amazon description of the book/project:
"Nicholas Nixon, a well-known photographer who has been favorably
compared to Walker Evans and Diane Arbus, began to photograph AIDS
patients in the summer of 1987. The 15 men and women who appear in this
book responded to Nixon's call for volunteers and chose to reveal
themselves throughout the stages of their illness. These photographs,
which are accompanied by a text written by Bebe Nixon and feature the
words of the subjects themselves, present dramatic visual evidence of
the ravages of AIDS." (from Amazon)

the obvious one for me is the Toronto artists
collective General Idea who published Fin de
Siecle and Pharmacopia among other works relating directly to their experience with AIDS – their
catalog raisonne is an ARLIS/NA award-winner and A.A. Bronson (the last
surviving member) led a workshop at the Banff conference – he is
currently an artist/guru/therapist in NYC and still involved with Printed
Matter, I believe. He would be a treasuire-trove of information if the student
wished to contact him directly.

I recently came across the book Waves
and plagues: the art of Masami Teraoka by Howard A. Link ( San Francisco : Chronicle Books, c1988),
which features Teraoka’s “AIDS series” of watercolors.

Paula,

The following artists' books and exhibition catalog deal with disease,
and
in particular, cancer.

Geller, Matthew. DIFFICULTY SWALLOWING. NY: Works Press, 1981

Hall , Martha . TATTOO.
Orr's Island , ME : M. Hall, 2001

HOLDING IN, HOLDING ON: ARTIST'S BOOKS BY MARTHA HALL. Northampton , MA :
Smith College , Mortimer Rare
Book Room, 2003

Underhill, Linn. THIRTY FIVE YEARS/ ONE WEEK. Rochester , NY :
Visual Studies
Workshop Press, 1981

Martha Hall was a book artist who made several books relating to her
struggle with breast cancer. The Smith College
exhibition catalog includes
images and text of all of her books. Sadly, she did not win this
struggle,
but her work is intensely personal and powerful. I believe they
still have
copies of this catalog available for sale.

The other artists' books may be available at library collections near
you.
I would look these titles up on Worldcat to check locations.

I hope these will be helpful.

A student is a printmaker and is interested in other contemporary
artists
who develop art related to diseases? I am not aware of any but will do
some
searching. Anyone think of a contemporary artist like this?
This student develops his artwork about cancer. Thanks.
