Museum Specialist (Art)
GS-1016-09 (Salary range: $48,108-$62,546 per year)
Full performance level of this position is GS-11.
Major Duties:
Incumbent is assigned to the Library Image
Collections department, in the office of the Deputy Director. Maintains
intellectual and physical control of an extensive study collection of slides,
photographs, and digital images of Northern European art (principally
Netherlandish, Dutch, Flemish, Belgian, and German) to 1900 and makes images
easily accessible to researchers by adding information about newly acquired
material to the department’s online catalogue. Serves as image cataloguer
and reference assistant and facilitates the collection’s effective use by
researchers and lecturers from the National Gallery of Art, the Center for
Advanced Study in the Visual Arts, and scholars, educators, and art museum
professionals worldwide.
Qualifications:
Candidates must meet the Qualification Standards
Handbook requirements for the GS-1016-9 (http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/SEC-IV/B/GS1000/1016.htm
. This requires at least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the
GS-7 level in the Federal service OR a master’s degree or 2 full academic
years of related graduate level education in art history, museum studies, or
related coursework with a concentration in Northern European art. An equivalent
combination of education and experience is fully qualifying and meets the
minimum qualification requirements. Specialized experience is organizing and
maintaining visual resource collections (slides, photographs, and digital
images) of Northern European art in an automated environment.
Federal status candidates also must meet the
time-in-grade requirements of having been at the GS-7 level for at least one
year.
