New Technologies You Need to Know
Online
August 1 - 31, 2008

Blogs, RSS, Wikis, IM, Podcasting, Mash-ups, Tagging, Mobile, Web 2.0.
Curious about the latest trends in technology affecting our library and
information settings? Been wondering about library uses of Facebook and
MySpace? Interested in how YouTube and SecondLife are reaching new
audiences? Even if you do not own a PDA or do not want to search the
library on your “smart” phone, odds are you have patrons who do. Even if
you have not set up an account at Flickr, Furl, or del.icio.us, you can
benefit from seeing the innovative applications of libraries that have.
This workshop will explain these new and emerging technologies in plain
English, and explore their practical and creative applications for
libraries.

The workshop is divided into a series of self-paced learning modules,
allowing you to complete it in any sequence and at your convenience. A
blog permits interchange between participants. You will need a computer
with Internet access and Adobe Acrobat.
