Thank you very much to all those who replied. Here is a summary with
follow up comments for those interested:

Here is a journal titled Documents with the ISSN: 1071-8613, but I
cannot find it in OCLC under the title or the ISSN. It was cited in the
BHA when I searched KW: performance AND archive.

Follow-up: located the record in WorldCAT. Here are the brief
    details. Ceased publication in 2004

        New York, N.Y. : Documents
        Magazine, Inc.
        1992-2004
        Vol. 1, no. 1/2 (fall/winter
        1992)-no. 23 (spring 2004).; v. : ill. ; 26 cm
        *ISSN:* 1071-8613; *LCCN:* 93-644913 ; sn 93-6380
        Indexed in: Alt Press Index

Mostly focused on Contemporary Art; not much re: documentation

"Public Art: Thinking Museums Differently", by Hilde Hein [Altamira
Press, 2007].

    Follow-up: Google Books Excerpts
    <http://books.google.ca/books?id=DDTphbKzwMAC&pg=PR21&dq=public+art+thinking+museum+differently&sig=ACfU3U27TpRiwU7u66XPXg8yOoDyYNf65g#PPP1,M1>
    - not much on documentation but appears to be accessible book on the
    debate around public art

I don't know if it would really be what you or the department are looking
for, but have you searched with a government programs/tax
dollars/cost-benefit analysis bent. It seems like the controversies
surrounding public art projects may give you a place to start. If you found
some more business or legal sources they might point you to more
authoritative documentation or art-related sources as well.
Just a thought.

Follow up: Public Art Online has links to Policies and Guidances
    <http://www.publicartonline.org.uk/current/policies/index.html> from
    mostly UK Councils

Websites:

http://www.heritagepreservation.org/PROGRAMS/SOS/finding.html

Follow up: more focused on outdoor sculpture/murals and conservation
    than time-limited/temporary works

Designed specifically for media-based installation works, the Media
Matters site,
http://www.tate.org.uk/research/tateresearch/majorprojects/mediamatters/

contains templates for activities related to the accession of
site-specific installed works.
The templates provide guidelines on documentation,

Follow up: Media Matters: External Resources
    <http://www.tate.org.uk/research/tateresearch/majorprojects/mediamatters/acquisitions/externalresources.shtm>
from Tate Research points to some excellent resources

Original message:

Our Art History and Studio Arts programs are integrating 'public art'
into its curriculum. Of particular interest from one of the faculty
members are resources on methodologies and processes involved in
documenting public art especially site specific temporary works such as
performances and installations.
I have searched WorldCAT and the Art Index. So far, I have not located
much.

Does anyone have any recommendations in this area?

Thank you.
