Greetings! The International Relations Committee (IRC) of ARLIS/NA is sponsoring and organizing a study tour to the Netherlands in conjunction with ARLIS/NL. Details about the trip and the application form are pasted into this email, and are also located on the IRC website in a .pdf at http://www.cooptel.qc.ca/~renata/irc_top.html We look forward to hearing from you, Hugh, Michiel, and Kristen on behalf of the IRC, ARLIS/NA and ARLIS/NL ARLIS/NA, ARLIS/NL and the International Relations Committee (IRC) cordially invite you to sign up for a study tour of the Netherlands October 26 - November 1, 2008 Highlights of the tours and library visits will include: * Amsterdam Public Library * Stedelijk Museum hardhat tour of renovations * Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven * University of Utrecht Library * Delft Technische Universiteit Library * Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam, and the project to digitize Van Gogh's letters * Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica manuscript collection * Special Collections of the University Library of Amsterdam housed in three 17th century houses, but with a completely redesigned interior * Evening Canal Cruise There will also be time to visit bookshops and vendors, as well as an international debate where participants and our Dutch hosts will discuss the different library practices in North America vs. those of the Netherlands. DETAILS: The study tour will be able to accommodate 10-20 ARLIS/NA members. Spouses and partners are welcome to participate in the evening and social events. Applications are due July 1, 2008 on a first-come, first-served basis to either Hugh Wilburn [log in to unmask] or Kristen Regina [log in to unmask] We will notify you by JULY 8 if you are among the first 20 applicants, at which time you have until AUGUST 1 to submit a deposit of $300 to secure your place in the trip. Costs: There is no fee, other than the $300 deposit due August 1, 2008 which will be applicable to your hotel bill. Participants are responsible for: Airfare: All participants should plan to arrive in Amsterdam by Sunday, October 26. Hotel: We have reserved rooms at the Lloyd Hotel, a renovated building which originally housed the emigrants to the United States before they set sail for the States-a reverse Ellis Island. The rooms start at 100 Euros a night, but for this ARLIS/NA - ARLIS/NL trip we will receive a discount of approximately 20%. Meals and Miscellaneous: Some evening meals, ground transportation, and events (still to be determined) will be covered by the trip, but please be prepared to cover most of your own food and other miscellaneous costs.
