Dear Museum Libraries Division members (and interested others) -- At the Museum Libraries Division meeting in Denver, Pat Barnett at the Frick gave the Division an update on the NYARC (New York Art Resources Consortium) collaboration, and we took a question about publications on the project. I'm attaching herewith a recent email from RLG about just such a publication, a white paper by Brian Lavoie and Günter Waibel, who worked on the project for RLG. Enjoy! "An Art Resource in New York: The Collective Collection of the NYARC Art Museum Libraries" (.pdf: 136K/18 pp.) is available in PDF format on the OCLC Programs and Research Web site. The report provides an overview of the work undertaken under the auspices of a planning grant sponsored by The Mellon Foundation in which the Brooklyn Museum, the Frick Art Reference Library, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art formed the New York Art Resources Consortium (NYARC) to explore deep collaboration between their respective libraries. NYARC engaged RLG Programs to provide the libraries with collection analysis and business intelligence they need to make informed decisions about the nature of their collaborative efforts. The findings presented are based on determination and analysis of the size of the collective NYARC collection, the extent of holdings overlap as well as uniquely held materials. The report compiles statistics about specific types of materials the consortium held a special interest in, such as auction catalogs, exhibition catalogs and serials. It also includes a comparison of the NYARC holdings to a set of three local research libraries (New York Public Library, New York University and Columbia University), as well as a west-coast peer institution (Getty Research Institute), which provides additional context for the findings. You may link directly to the report here: http://www.oclc.org/programs/publications/reports/2008-02.pdf This report is part of an ongoing series of papers from OCLC Programs and Research to promote evidence-based practice in library cooperation by identifying collaborative practices that are likely to have an enduring positive impact on research libraries and the communities they serve. Findings from this report will support and amplify ongoing work in our Data-Mining for Management Intelligence & New Services program: http://www.oclc.org/programs/ourwork/collectivecoll/mining/default.htm Questions or comments regarding this report can be directed to Günter Waibel, Program Officer, at [log in to unmask] Best regards, Melissa Melissa Renspie Senior Communications Officer, RLG Programs OCLC Programs and Research 6565 Kilgour Place Dublin, OH 43017-3395 Phone: (614) 761-5231 FAX: (614) 718-7585 E-mail: [log in to unmask] __________________________________________________________________ Mail submissions to [log in to unmask] For information about joining ARLIS/NA see: http://www.arlisna.org/join.html Send administrative matters (file requests, subscription requests, etc) to [log in to unmask] ARLIS-L Archives and subscription maintenance: http://lsv.uky.edu/archives/arlis-l.html Questions may be addressed to list owner (Judy Dyki) at: [log in to unmask]
