WALRC, the Washington Art Library Resources Committee, is pleased to
announce that we have awarded two grants to Kristen Regina, Chief
Librarian at the Hillwood Estate, Museum and Gardens Library. The
grants will be used for an online exhibition and a brochure devoted to
the art of the 19th-century illustrated book, with an emphasis on
publications located in the Washington, D.C area. According to Kristen,
"the exhibit will study the art of the imperial Russian fine press book
and its illustrations, and put them in context through a chronological
overview of the history and genres of publications of the period, not
just based on a single collector or collection". These two projects
will create English-language reference tools for libraries with
19th-century Russian illustrated books. Up to now, such studies
available in the English language have been extremely rare. The website
is scheduled to be completed in July 2008 and the brochure will be
published in August 2008.

Congratulations to Kristen.
