I am working on a project to add latitude and longitude coordinates for all of the outdoor sculptures listed in our national Inventory of American Sculpture database <http://americanart.si.edu/art_info/inventories-intro.cfm>   We’re hoping to create a subset of our data for a Web-based mash-up page with Google mapping.  There appears to be two primary ways of recording latitude and longitude coordinates-- either as decimal degrees or recorded in the form hdddmmss (hemisphere, degrees, minutes, seconds).

Has anyone else input this kind of information for non-map materials?  If so, which format did you use and did you use the 034 MARC field or another field?

If you have helpful suggestions, I’d appreciate hearing from you.

Sincerely,
