Hello All,

A science faculty member has asked me to help him
identify the artist behind a triple portrait of Darwin, Lyell, and
Hooker (you can see it here http://www.killerplants.com/renfields-garden/20031217.asp). We've tracked it down (we think) to the Down House, which was
Darwin's house, and have asked for information from English Heritage
but haven't yet heard from anyone. I've looked at the World Painting
Index to no avail, and the catalogue of the Darwin memorial lists it
with "paintings presented by Dr Alexander Eric Kohts (Coates), curator
of the Darwin Museum in Moscow. These show Darwin in his study, Alfred
Russel Wallace, Darwin with Lyell and Hooker, and others" but with no
other identifiers. In Bridgeman, the painting is identified as from
the "English School, 19th Century" but my faculty member has also seen
it attributed (in science monographs) to a Russian artist named
Eustaphieff.

Any information, or confirmation that this is in fact a really tough question, would be greatly appreciated!
