Design Journals & Their Practices for Accepting
Articles
Which design journals accept unsolicited articles? Which
have a system of peer review for submissions? Editors of
architecture and landscape architecture journals were
polled by the staff of Penn State University’s Architecture
and Landscape Architecture Library and the results have
been posted at:
http://www.libraries.psu.edu/architecture/refereed_journals.html

Determining how journals handle article submissions has
been difficult because general directories and bibliographic
databases contain inconsistent data or use definitions of
“peer reviewed” or “refereed” that are unclear. This
survey contacted nearly 200 editors of journals and so far
has received responses from more than half. The results
are divided into four categories:

 · Do not accept unsolicited articles
 · Acceptance determined solely by the editor
 · Peer review employed
 · Blind peer review employed
All responses are dated and URLs for journals are usually
provided. The website will be updated periodically.
