Dear colleagues,
Some 3400
images of 17th and 18th century prints published in town books have been added
to the image database Stedenatlassen of the Amsterdam University Library.
All town books are part of the special collections and printed only several
hundreds of meters from the library by illustrious Dutch publishers like Joan
Blaeu, Johannes Janssonius, Frederick de Wit, Isaak Tirion and Carel Allard.
Images can
only be found using the overall topographical index, producing all images of one
place in all town books together, or through the index of each town book.
So
you may choose to take the overall index 'Index alle atlassen' or have a
look at the overview of the town books included in : 'Overzicht
stedenatlassen'. Multi-volume atlases show the step 'toon delen'
first, presenting the individual volumes. Individual volumes always have two
options 'index' or 'blader'. 'Index' presents the topographical
index to this volume, and 'blader' is the browse option, presenting the
thumbnails of the complete contents (including texts!) from cover to cover.
Although
the site is in Dutch, the Amsterdam University Library has tried to make the
geographical names as 'international' as possible. Any remarks can be sent to
Jan Werner ([log in to unmask]) curator of the Maps and Atlases
department.
With kind
regards
Martien Versteeg
