RESPONSIBILITIES:  Based in the Architecture Library, located in the School
of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation and working under the direction
of the Branch Manager, Art and Architecture Libraries, the Architecture,
Planning, and Preservation Librarian works with other members of the Art and
Architecture Team to design and administer an innovative program for public
service and user education in the subject areas of architecture, urban
studies and planning, historic preservation, and real estate development,
that incorporates new technologies, interdisciplinary models, and analysis
of user needs.  Primary responsibilities shall be to provide bibliographic
instruction; to provide in depth reference assistance; and to engage in
continued outreach activities to the department. The incumbent shall also
participate in collection development and management, working with the other
Architecture, Planning and Preservation Librarian.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: Required: ALA-accredited MLS/MIS or
comparable degree.  Experience providing reference and instructional
services and/or collection development and management in an academic or
special library. Understanding of current and emerging trends in one or more
of the disciplines specified above and familiarity with electronic resources
and information technologies, related to these subject areas.  Demonstrated
proficiency and capabilities with personal computers and software, the Web,
and library-relevant information technology applications.  Strong public
service orientation.  Demonstrated ability to work effectively and
creatively with faculty, students, and library staff in a dynamic, rapidly
changing environment.  Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred: Knowledge of architecture, urban studies and planning, historic
preservation, real estate development or a related discipline, as
demonstrated through academic degrees, course work, publications or job
experience.  Knowledge of current and emerging trends in academic library
services/resources as they relate to scholarly communication and publishing.


 

Position is appointed to Librarian Faculty Ranks as established by the
University System of Maryland Board of Regents.  Rank at appointment is
based on the successful applicant's experience and relevant credentials.
