The Barnes Foundation is seeking an individual to
oversee a high-resolution digital imaging project.
The Visual Resources Manager will be responsible for
the management, distribution, and preservation of digital images and
photographic materials related to the art collections of the Barnes Foundation.
The Visual Resources Manager will initially manage a high-resolution
digitization project of the Barnes Foundation’s art collection which will
require the coordination of a team of photographers and art handlers. The
Visual Resources Manager will oversee ongoing image production of the art
collection and will be responsible for the development and implementation of
cataloguing and metadata standards for the Foundation’s digital image
collections.
Requirements for the position include a graduate
degree with a specialization in digital imaging technology or visual resources
management, or related field, or equivalent work experience managing both
digital and physical media in a museum or cultural institution. Course work in
art history, photography, or fine arts is desirable. Applicants should have
knowledge of, and experience with, current practices in digital imaging and
scanning technologies, equipment, and preservation including proficiency with
Adobe Photoshop, color management tools for digital assets, digital image
management software, and collections management software. Excellent
communication and organizational skills will be required as well as experience
in the coordination and supervision of staff. Experience working with
publications and knowledge of image editing and digital prepress is desirable.
