Dear Sara,

There was a piece about tomato pincushions in:

PieceWork July/August 2002, p 34

I remember seeing the article and found the citation on the PieceWork
site: http://www.interweave.com/needle/piecework_magazine/

Alas, I no longer have the magazine, or I could scan and send it to you.

Best,

Nancy

Hi Sara-

I don't know if this will help, but I would suggest that she search for
a book or two on pincushions or (broader term) sewing notions. I'd
probably check WorldCat for books as well as your own library. You
might also check a library with a strong women's history collection,
sewing or fashion design collection such as Texas Woman's University in
Denton TX.

The tomato pincushion is practically an icon and is almost certain to be
covered. To some, pincushions are probably a collectible.

Another idea: quilter's listservs or collector's listservs.

Hope the ideas help! I do know that the attached strawberry is an emery
- for sharpening your needles and pins.

Tori

Dear ARLIS members,

One of our graduate students is doing research on the history of the
tomato
pincushion. I did a quick search of WilsonWeb and of JSTOR and found a
couple of not-perfect-but-ok articles. Any quick recommendations?
Thanks!
