Articles of interest
I'm passing along two articles of mild interest which have appeared in the past few days:

The first article in the New York Times is about an upcoming vote by Harvard faculty to distribute their scholarship online. The high cost of printing art history journals is specifically mentioned. But perhaps Harvard is sui generis...

"At Harvard, a Proposal to Publish Free on the Web" by Patricia Cohen, New York Times, Feb. 12, 2008: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/12/books

The second article appearing in Newsweek reviews current technology which would allow low-cost personal scanning ("ripping") of books (still seems pretty far fetched but as is pointed out, "Napster happened in a snap.")

"Rip This Book? Not Yet." by Steven Levy, Newsweek, Feb. 18, 2008: http://www.newsweek.com/id/109580
