The Cincinnati Art Museum has been awarded a Library Services and Technology Act Full Grant for $125,002 to support the automation project of its Mary R. Schiff Library in collaboration with the University of Cincinnati Libraries. The automation project will allow users nationwide greater access to the rich and extensive collection of visual arts resources housed in the Art Museum's library. The Mary R. Schiff Library collection (established in 1881) includes over 70,000 books and bound periodicals, a significant collection of auction catalogues from regional and international auction houses and Art Source: The Beverly S. Petrie Memorial Teacher Resource Collection. Art Source features books, lesson plans, videotapes, and interactive tools for K-12 classrooms and is a frequently used resource for local arts educators. When completed, the automation project will convert the Mary R. Schiff Library paper catalog to an automated system making it available through the World Wide Web. The partnership with the University of Cincinnati will also make it possible to add these resources to the statewide OhioLINK system, a consortium of 86 college and university libraries and the State Library of Ohio, thus further expanding the library's user community.
