Call for Papers: Art Libraries Section, International Federation of Library Associations (www.ifla.org) World Library and Information Congress Quebec City, August 10-14, 2008 The programme of the Art Libraries Section is planned under the conference's general theme: "Libraries without borders: Navigating towards global understanding." The Section is pleased to announce its intention to hold a 2-hour session during the General Conference as well as an off-site workshop, and welcomes proposals for both as described below. Open Session: The Art Libraries Section is pleased to announce its intention to hold a 2-hour session during the General Conference on the theme, "Advancing Cultural and Social Diversity through Global Partnerships : The Art Library's Role in a World without Borders." The Section invites you to submit an abstract for a presentation on this theme during its Open Session at the World Library and Information Congress: 74th IFLA General Conference and Council to be held 10-14 August 2008, Quebec, Canada (http://www.ifla.org/IV/ifla74/index.htm) Aspects of the topic could include: - partnerships across the art domain - art libraries and cultural networks - working with other institutions to increase the relevance of art libraries in the modern world, particularly co-operative projects between art libraries, or art libraries partnering with other institutions as active advocates for cultural and social diversity. The theme's phrase, "A World without Borders," can span borders of any nature - geographic, social, cyber, digital, etc. - in which art libraries may engage. Workshop: To engage interactive discussion of the practical issues vis a vis the afore-mentioned theme, the Art Libraries Section is pleased to announce its intention to hold an off-site workshop during the conference on the topic: "Objects and projects : Art libraries developing partnerships and tools to share knowledge, improve understanding, and discover common treasures." One of the topics for presentations at the workshop could be: "Towards a cartography of the web in art history." Proposals for new collaborative projects for the Art Libraries Section are also most welcome at the workshop.
