The Art Libraries Society of North America is pleased to announce Shilpa
Rele as the recipient of its 2007-2008 Internship Award. This
prestigious award grants $2,500 to support a period of internship for a
student preparing for a career in art librarianship or visual resources
curatorship. In addition to the $2,500 stipend, Ms. Rele will receive a
one-year complimentary membership in ARLIS/NA.

Shilpa Rele is presently a MLIS candidate in the Department of
Information Studies at the University of California Los Angeles and is
scheduled to graduate in June 2008. She also holds masters degrees in
art history from the University of Minnesota and in history from the
University of Mumbai in India. She has been an active member of UCLA's
student chapter of the American Society for Information Science and
Technology (ASIS&T) as well as an officer of ARTiFACTS, a UCLA student
group promoting art librarianship, visual resources curatorship and
museum informatics. Ms. Rele is focused on a career as a visual
resources professional and is particularly interested in issues related
to information retrieval and digital preservation of visual collections.

As has been the case in recent years, the Subcommittee read many
excellent applications and is particularly pleased to note that over
twenty-four different graduate programs from Canada and the United
States were represented. While only one ARLIS/NA Internship Award is
granted each year, ARLIS/NA does maintain a list of paid and unpaid
internship opportunities; interested students and potential hosts are
encouraged to visit the Internship Roster website
