Dear Colleagues –

The Brown University Library was recently awarded a Collaborative Planning Grant by the Institute of Library and Museum Services for the purpose of working with the Museum of Art at the Rhode Island School of Design and the RISD Library to develop a new database architecture for the Gorham Company Archive.  The digital collection will draw upon collections of Gorham silverware held by museums around the world. The proposed database will allow libraries and museums to share knowledge concerning the Gorham Manufacturing Company and its products in a way that will link together collections of archival documents, design drawings and museum objects.  Further information about the project can be found at http://blogs.brown.edu/project/libnews/archives/2007/10/gorham_collecti.html

At this early phase, we would like to solicit feedback from museum curators, art historians and other professionals as to the structure of the database we are about to design.  We have mounted a brief survey for this purpose at:  http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=y7CABn9goDWwgCRoHUMvgA_3d_3d

We would be very grateful if you would take a few minutes to complete the survey.  We are collecting data from November 15 through November 30, 2007.

Thank you in advance for your help.  We are certain that your feedback will be very useful to us as the project proceeds.

                                                                                       Sincerely yours,
