Dear Colleagues: We noticed Wayne State’s recent posting to the ARLIS-L listserv announcing a call for Fine and Performing Art Librarian mentors.  This sounds like a fantastic opportunity! It occurred to us to also remind our Art Librarian Colleagues about the ARLIS/NA year-long Mentoring Program. Tony White and I, as co-chairs of the Mentorship Task Force, and under the auspices of the Professional Development Committee have spent the last four years developing the year-long Mentoring Program at the behest of the Executive Board and as part of the 2000-2005 ARLIS/NA strategic plan. The basic structure is a call for participants made through ARLIS-L, an application to help us match pairs with similar interests and time commitments, a mandatory 4 hour workshop at the annual conference where the pairs are given information on creating and maintaining a successful relationship, including role playing exercises, and monitoring through the year by members of the Task Force to advise, and trouble-shoot where needed. ARLIS/NA members may find the Task Force's report helpful to review. ("Mentorship Task Force Report, Professional Development Committee, ARLIS/NA" Art Documentation v. 24, no. 2 (2005), p. 49-56.)  We will be posting a call for participants in the Mentorship Program Workshop at the 2008 ARLIS/NA Denver conference. Please let us know if you have any questions about this program.
