I know of no library that would permit the viewing of child pornography. Not only is it unacceptable within the library, but is a federal offense. Furthermore there is a marked difference between child pornography (clearly alluded to in this CNN article you have forwarded to the listserv, but makes no mention of libraries, librarians, special collections, art libraries, et al.) and the content of these photographs/video found in the desert. I am not entirely certain what your platform of discussion is. Is it that you believe these visual documents should be destroyed? Or are you referring to artists who use children as their subject matter in contemporary photography? From my rudimentary understanding of law enforcement I believe these items would be retained as records or evidence within the group conducting that investigation and are not fodder for the general viewing public.
