Lest this seem like a one-sided debate:

I have to say I almost never use the printed Directory now and instinctively use the on-line. I would prefer the considerable money and effort required to produce the printed version (as the volunteer editor of a recent one, I know whereof I speak) to go into maintaining and improving the on-line.

And I would happily print off a pdf version in case of need – it’s something I do all the time with long documents.
