The Director of the Gimbel Library reports to the
Assistant University Librarian for
Access Services and will manage the day-to-day
operations of the Gimbel Library whose collections support teaching and
learning in art and design disciplines. The ideal candidate will be a leader
with experience working in a team-based environment, management, and decision-making
ability, and the ability to foster collegiality and flexibility in others. He
or she will be well organized, a creative thinker, and able to interact
effectively with a broad clientele including faculty, students, and art and
design professionals.
Responsibilities:
• Supervise professional and support
staff
• Participate in the creation and
implementation of library policies and procedures
• Participate in long-range planning
and budgeting for the University Library
• Participate in the implementation
of a university-wide information literacy agenda
• Coordinate collection development
in art and design
Requirements:
•
• Demonstrated supervisory experience
in an academic library
• Knowledge of information technology
and major bibliographic utilities
• Understanding of current issues in
academic librarianship and higher education
• Excellent written and oral
communication skills
• Advanced degree (preferably in art,
design, art history, or the humanities)
