The Director of the Gimbel Library reports to the Assistant University
Librarian for

Access Services and will manage the day-to-day operations of the Gimbel
Library whose collections support teaching and learning in art and design
disciplines. The ideal candidate will be a leader with experience working in
a team-based environment, management, and decision-making ability, and the
ability to foster collegiality and flexibility in others. He or she will be
well organized, a creative thinker, and able to interact effectively with a
broad clientele including faculty, students, and art and design
professionals.

 

Responsibilities:

.           Supervise professional and support staff

.           Participate in the creation and implementation of library
policies and procedures

.           Participate in long-range planning and budgeting for the
University Library

.           Participate in the implementation of a university-wide
information literacy agenda

.           Coordinate collection development in art and design

 

Requirements:

.           ALA accredited MLS

.           Demonstrated supervisory experience in an academic library

.           Knowledge of information technology and major bibliographic
utilities

.           Understanding of current issues in academic librarianship and
higher education

.           Excellent written and oral communication skills

.           Advanced degree (preferably in art, design, art history, or the
humanities)
