Well, it certainly means they will lose our business (St. Louis Public). I suspect that generally speaking, the title is of more interest to public library patrons than the upper-level academics whom Peter serves. But, as an institutional policy, we do not purchase subscriptions from anyone but EBSCO unless a title has an overwhelming local interest. So they will lose the academics and many public subscribers. Many of the antiques-oriented serials that we receive have shrunk in size recently, due to the ease of finding information and up-to-the-minute values for antiques and collectibles online. I expect many of them to go out of business eventually. They choose to no longer work with serial vendors. Not a huge problem. A bit of a pain for our acquisitions department. But it does raise an interesting question. With competition for the journal dollar at an all time high, and with acquisition, processing, and technical services staff dwindling, why continue to subscribe to titles that are of limited value and require additional effort to obtain? Would my community find their research hampered should Art & Antiques no longer on our shelves? I doubt it. Comments? Cheers, Peter Blank Peter P.
