Hello all, I wanted to follow up Jeanne Brown's July 12 report on ALA affiliates. Jeanne mentioned a "Diversity in the Profession" study, which is available at http://www.ala.org/diversitycounts This report includes an analysis of the 2000 US Census data and a Sept 2006 ALA demographic survey in regards to age, race/ethnicity, gender, disability status, etc. of librarians. Not too surprisingly, as a profession we are a lot more white and female compared to the population as a whole (more details on p. 15 of the report).
