The meeting, sponsored by ProQuest, will show you Illustrata and explain why the development of Illustrata is a major step forward in the acquisition of relevant and timely information for researchers.

About the panelists:

BARBARA TARANTO is the Director of the Digital Library Program at The
New York Public Library. She is responsible for overseeing all
activities related to digital collections which includes the Digital
Imaging Lab, the development of HADES, the Library's Digital Asset
Management System, the implementation of the FEDORA Repository, the
creation of the web content application interface (WAP) and several
large scale publicly accessible research resources including NYPL
DigitalGallery (550,000 pictorial/graphic

items) and the African American Migration Experience electronic
monograph (30,000 items). In addition, Ms. Taranto sits on the board of
CLOCKSS (Controlled Lots of Copies Keeps Stuff Safe) and eSchool News.
She is lead program officer for the Library's National Digital Newspaper
Project (NDNP) funded and supported by a partnership with the Library of
Congress and the National Endowment for the Humanities. She is an active
member of the Digital Library Federation, the Coalition for Networked
Information, the Association of Computing Machinery and the Metropolitan
Library Association.

She is currently working on a book titled The Digital Tithe.



DIANE J. HOFFMAN has been involved in marketing information products for
over 30 years and electronic services for nearly 25 years.

She currently works for ProQuest CSA as Senior Director, Life Sciences
where she is responsible for the direction of the CSA Natural and Life
Science products and services. Diane joined CSA in

2001 where she was based in Oxford, UK for three years as Director, CSA
Business Development Europe. Preceding joining CSA, she had her own
consulting company Hoffman Information Services

Formerly she held the position of Vice President of Marketing and
Distribution at BIOSIS where she was responsible for marketing, sales,
advertising, education, customer services, licensing and new product
development. Before joining BIOSIS, Diane was involved in marketing
print services for the Institute for Scientific Information

(ISI) and electronic services for Bibliographic Retrieval Service

(BRS) and Disclosure. She was also involved in creating electronic
chemical products for various Maxwell companies including Molecular
Design Ltd. and Maxwell Online.

Before her segue into the information marketing area, she received her
MSLS from Syracuse University in 1972 and worked for Syracuse University
and SUNY-Oswego as Science Librarian.
