seeks a dynamic and creative librarian to lead the AIB Library. The ability to
articulate and implement an innovative, flexible vision for library services in
an art school environment is a key attribute for the successful candidate.
The AIB Library is a small facility with a focused
collection of monographs, serials, images and slides, located in the Kenmore Square neighbourhood
of Boston, Massachusetts. As one of the five schools of
Lesley University, the Art Institute offers
BFA, MFA, and continuing education programs.
This full time position reports to the Director of
Libraries, and serves as a member of the senior management team. The major
challenges of this position will be continued development of digital image
collections, expansion of print collections to support growing BFA and MFA
programs, collaboration with University librarians in the development of
information and media literacy programs and collaboration with AIB faculty,
administrators and architects to design a new library facility.
REQUIREMENTS: An MLS from an ALA accredited institution is required, as
well as four years professional library experience. In addition, a degree in
Art, Art History, or related field, is preferred. Thorough understanding of the
requirements of print, non-print, audiovisual, and digital collections, and the
potential of emerging information resources. Library management experience in
an academic setting, preferably in a university or art school, is desirable.
