Can anyone explain the note in the Orientalist Art
Christie’s auction catalog for 6/26/2007, “Out of
respect for cultural sensibilities, this image has
been distorted…” It appears on some paintings with
images of nude women, but I’m wondering if this is a
new policy or something that members have observed in
the past in auction catalogs. Thanks.
