Sterling Memorial Library

Yale University

Band: III

Schedule: 37.5 Hours (Monday-Friday, 8:30-5:00)

Requisition: 891BR

The University and the Library

The University Library, which is a highly valued partner in teaching and
research at the University, has more than 12.5 million volumes housed in the
Sterling Memorial Library and 22 school and departmental libraries.

It employs a dynamic and innovative staff of nearly 600 FTE who have the
opportunity to work with the highest caliber of faculty and students,
participate on committees and are involved in other areas of staff
development. A full spectrum of library resources, from rare books and
manuscripts to a rapidly expanding network of electronic resources,
constitutes one of Yale's distinctive strengths. The Library is engaged in
numerous digital initiatives designed to provide access to a full array of
scholarly information. For additional information on the Yale University
Library, please visit the Library's Web site at: http://www.library.yale.edu

The Visual Resources Collections Unit (VRC) The Visual Resources Collections
unit (VRC), focuses on service support and collection building for teaching
and learning with digital images in the visual arts. It is in the process of
transforming from a traditional slide and photograph collection to a digital
image service center.

Currently, the VRC adds to and maintains significant arts-related content in
the Library's cross-collection database, the Image Commons, with a rapidly
growing collection currently consisting of over 87,000 images. The VRC is
scheduled to move in the summer of 2008 into the new Arts Library facility
in the renovated and expanded Art& Architecture building. At that time, the
archival transfer of the historic 500,000-item slide and photograph
collection to the Library Shelving Facility in Hamden will have been
completed, as the History of Art department and others move closer to their
goals of integrating digital resources and tools in classroom teaching and
independent learning. This transition period requires the highest degree of
collaboration on, and where appropriate integration of, service development
and delivery among colleagues and partners in the Arts Library, the
Library's Integrated Library and Technology Services (ILTS), the
University's Information Technology Services (ITS) divisions, and other
campus course support providers.
