One of our library school students has to answer the following question in
his Reference and
Information Services class:
"Which electronic database(s) should I search for a comprehensive
collection of the contents of art auction catalogs?"

This is an area I know little about since we've never had any--it isn't
really appropriate to our curriculum. I've told the student about
http://www.nypl.org/research/chss/spe/art/artarc/auction/auctions.html,
but I'm wondering if there really is any database of this sort that could
truly be described as "comprehensive"...your opinions will be greatly
appreciated.
