Drexel University Libraries invite you to the 2007 Scholarly Communication Symposium

Intellectual Property Rights

The Drexel University Libraries, with support from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the LeBow Center for Teaching Excellence, the LeBow Center for Research Excellence, and Knovel Corporation, will present The 4th Annual Scholarly Communication Symposium: Intellectual Property Rights. Join us for a full-day program that will feature renowned speakers and panelists.

 

All are welcome! The event is free, but registration is required. Please register by April 6th.

Michael W. Carroll, J.D., Associate Professor at the Villanova University School of Law and a member of the Board of Directors of Creative Commons, Inc. (morning session)

 

Siva Vaidhyanathan, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Culture and Communication at New York University and author of Copyrights and Copywrongs: The Rise of Intellectual Property and How it Threatens Creativity (New York University Press, 2001) and The Anarchist in the Library (Basic Books, 2004).  (Morning session)

 

Martin I. Finston, Ph.D., J.D., in-house Patent Counsel at Alcatel-Lucent, a global communications solutions provider. (Afternoon session)

Robert B. McGrath, Ph.D., Associate Vice Provost and Executive Director of Entrepreneurship and Technology Commercialization at Drexel University. (Afternoon session)

 

Panelists (include the speakers listed above as well as):

 

Marcy Wagman, Esq., Program Director for the Bachelor of Science in Music Industry at Drexel University’s Antoinette Westphal College of Media, Arts and Design and CEO of MAD Dragon UNLTD. She is also a singer/songwriter and has an expertise in Copyright and Entertainment Law. (Morning session)

 

Neal Orkin, J.D., Associate Professor in the Department of Legal Studies at LeBow College of Business, Drexel University. He has an expertise in the Intellectual Property rights of employed inventors and authors. (Morning session)

 

William L. Bartow, Esq., Intellectual Property Group at DLA Piper Law Firm, has an expertise in medical devices, smart card technology, combustion safety devices, and other mechanical arts and is an Alumnus of Drexel University. (Afternoon session)

 

Tim Block, Ph.D., Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at Drexel’s College of Medicine and is the Director of the Drexel Institute for Biotechnology and Virology Research. (Afternoon session)

 

Sasha Gurke, Sr. Vice President and Co-Founder, Knovel Corporation, is a trained Chemist and Process Engineer with years of industrial and lab experience. (Afternoon session)

 

Elisabeth Papazoglou Ph.D., Assistant Professor, School of Biomedical Engineering at Drexel University, has an expertise in skin research, wound healing, deployment of non-invasive technologies for skin characterization, correlation of spectroscopic/imaging information to skin chemistry and wound healing. (Afternoon session)
