Many thanks to Tom Caswell for his observations about the announcement sent to the list this week on behalf of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and ARTstor regarding Images for Academic Publishing. He expressed concerns that the publication-quality images in question will be available only to ARTstor participants at this juncture. We have encouraging news on this front. As the press release suggests, "Efforts to expand this accessibility are now underway and will be announced by ARTstor at a later date." ARTstor is currently working to enable The Metropolitan Museum of Art staff to extend this service to unaffiliated scholars, and those at institutions that do not license ARTstor. The Metropolitan Museum of Art and ARTstor are actively pursing the goal of facilitating worldwide access to these images. Interested parties should anticipate further updates on our progress.
