POSITION SUMMARY
The Media and Digital Assets Librarian will serve the
information needs of students and faculty working in the media arts, and
assists users of digital art and design resources and related technologies. The
librarian will oversee development and maintenance of the media and visual
resources collections and will supervise staff in these areas. The position

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Media Collections
- Coordinate development of video collections to
support the curriculum
- Act as liaison for students and faculty working in
film, video, and animation
- Select and acquire videos and related literature
- Assist with cataloging of videos
- Perform, supervise, or outsource video dubs and
transfers
- Assist with preservation and cataloging of archival
audiovisual materials
Visual Resources and Digital Assets Management
- Manage all aspects of ARTstor participation,
including development of personal and institutional collections
- Train and assist faculty, staff, and students in the
use of ARTstor
- Serve as leader in the transition from slide to
digital image use
- Coordinate digitization of images, usually through
outsourcing
- Supervise visual resource operations performed by
the slide curator, visual resources assistant, and student assistants
- Develop instructional aids for image access and use
- Maintain Filemaker databases for media and visual
resource access not achieved via the OPAC
- Assist with the development of an institution-wide
digital image repository
General Librarian Duties
- Provide reference and research assistance
- Assist with instructional services
- Participate in space planning and policy
development
- Gather statistics, prepare reports, and develop
assessment instruments
- Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Previous work experience in a library, preferably
academic. MLS or equivalent; or advanced degree in a relevant subject area.
Knowledge of art and design history, contemporary trends, and the sources of
documentation, with special emphasis on media and related genres. Demonstrable
ability to be an expert ARTstor user, along with an interest in image and/or
audiovisual cataloging. Familiarity with MS Office, Adobe Suite, iLife, and a
database such as Filemaker. Supervisory experience desirable. Knowledge about
photography and AV equipment also desirable. Excellent written and oral
communication skills, good time management skills, and advanced organizational
ability. Public service orientation is essential. Familiarity with and ability
to apply technological innovations to Library operations with strong computer
skills in MS Word and Excel. Experience using and supporting Datatel Colleague
or similar ERP software preferred.
SALARY: $40-50,000 annually, depending on experience
and qualifications and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
