Good point Jeff!  I would say earlier judges/committee
members felt the competition in a sense that they were
comparing apples to oranges.  This produced a more
comprehensive list of award winners.  Whose history is
more valued?  research? institutions with the most
clout?  Politics are always involved whether the
numbers are few or many.  No need to be dismissive of
other selections and other committee work.  If you
want to lead the committee in another direction,
please do so without offending previous work.
