Peter and Interested Others, The University Library System at Pitt has a DONOR who has paid for a special study room for undergrad students in the main library on campus. This is in memory of their son, who died in the military (well before the Iraq War). He was a Pitt student and an art major. So, part of their donation is an annual prize for a number of pieces selected from the annual undergrad student art exhibition each April. The selected pieces that win the Schneider Prize are then hung in the study room for a year. Plus the students win a cash award. Sometimes artists' books have been produced, but the work is normally paintings, sculptures or installations. I am thinking of adding an Artists' Book Prize for a selected artists' book to be placed in our library's collection. But I am working on that with the Studio Arts faculty and hoping it encourages more artists' books and that this second award happens. BTW, Mr. and Mrs. Schneider now live in North Carolina and come to Pgh to see the student show each year and meet the awarding artists and the librayr director takes everyone out to breakfast that morning.
