Curator, Image Collections & Fieldwork Archives

Dumbarton Oaks Research Library seeks a Curator to direct the operations of the newly re-organized Image Collections & Fieldwork Archives.  The ICFA will meet Dumbarton Oaks’ goals to increase the depth and breadth of its image collections and to provide digital access to all images and accompanying data.  Dumbarton Oaks Research Library collections focus on three areas of scholarship: Byzantine studies, garden & landscape studies, and Pre-Columbian studies.  The largest part of ICFA’s collections (500,000 images) currently documents Byzantine art, architecture, and archaeological excavations.  Growth of garden & landscape images, and Pre-Columbian images is anticipated.  Coordination of work with museum staff who curate Pre-Columbian images and library staff who collaborate on collection development for all three subjects is essential.

Required: MLS or M.A. in Art History; undergraduate major in Art History or archaeology preferred.  Experience managing image and/or archival collections, in particular experience with digital tools that provide enhanced access to paper-based collections.

Full position description is available at www.doaks.org.  Salary $55,000+, depending on experience.  Application deadline is March 15, 2007.
