I just looked at CAA guidelines and found this on their site. I guess each institution can decide for themselves? I wonder why our administration is interested in instituting this if CAA does not recommend requiring it. Perhaps some parity with other areas of the university? Kathy Theses and Comprehensive Examinations A written thesis on art history or theory should not necessarily be required; however, a critical statement, in writing, on the student's work, its development, and its cultural and historical references should be insisted on as a logical alternative. Comprehensive, out-of-class art history examinations, whether oral or written, should not be required. High-quality performance in course work itself can be counted on as assurance of the student's having a good working knowledge of the material. http://www.collegeart.org/guidelines/mfa.html -- * Kathy Evans Slide Librarian Division of Art and Design Patti and Rusty Rueff Dept of Visual and Performing Arts Yue-Kong Pao Hall of Visual and Performing Arts 552 West Wood Street West Lafayette, IN 47907-2002 * [log in to unmask] w: (765) 494-7666 __________________________________________________________________ Mail submissions to [log in to unmask] For information about joining ARLIS/NA see: http://www.arlisna.org/join.html Send administrative matters (file requests, subscription requests, etc) to [log in to unmask] ARLIS-L Archives and subscription maintenance: http://lsv.uky.edu/archives/arlis-l.html Questions may be addressed to list owner (Judy Dyki) at: [log in to unmask]
