The Texas-Mexico chapter is proud to announce its selection of Beverly
Mitchell (Fine Arts LIbrarian at Southern Methodist University) and
Katie Pierce (archives graduate student at the University of Texas at
Austin's School of Information) as the 2007 recipients of the Lois Swan
Jones Professional Development Award. It is through generous
individual donations that the chapter is able to offer this
annual prize in honor of Lois Swan Jones, one of the founding members
of ARLIS/TX-MEX. The purpose of this award is to support and encourage
the participation of Texas-Mexico chapter members by helping
defray conference expenses. This year's award provides
$500.00 to each recipient toward expenses incurred at the upcoming
ARLIS/NA national conference in Atlanta, Georgia 2007.
In keeping with the eligibility criteria of the award, Katie and
Beverly are members in good standing of both ARLIS/NA and
ARLIS/Texas-Mexico chapter, and each will receive less than partial
funding support from her institution. Both will be attending a
variety of sessions and events, and each has offered to volunteer.
As a condition of the award, beyond commitments of conference
involvement, each recipient will report on her activities as well as
the impact of this award in the Texas-Mexico chapter eNewsletter, the
Medium.
Congratulations to Beverly and Katie and a special thanks to all of the
chapter members who have contributed to make this award possible this
year.
