New York University Libraries seek candidates with flexibility,
creativity, and a strong customer service commitment to serve as Reference and
Public Services Librarian for the Library of the
Reporting to the Library Director, duties include (but are not limited
to): Provide leadership in the planning, design and provision of public access
services in the IFA Library, including the production and revision of library
guides; provide individual and group instruction and orientation; serve as a
liaison to faculty and graduate students; manage IFA library web pages;
contribute to the library’s public relations efforts; serve as liaison to
Reference/Public Services and other departments in the Division of Libraries;
provide collection development for reference materials, including materials for
the Conservation Center library; assist Library Director in collection
development for non-reference collections for the Chan and Conservation Center
libraries; work with faculty members and students on integrating electronic
resources into teaching and research; respond to written, telephone, and email
reference questions; participate in library and institutional committees and
other activities as appropriate; participate as library faculty member in NYU
library committees, meetings, etc. Candidate is expected to have the ability to
use a full range of text and electronic resources in the arts and related
areas.
QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited MLS and second subject Master’s
degree required for tenure. Background in art history required; familiarity
with current trends in art history pedagogy, electronic resources, including
image databases. Minimum three years professional reference experience,
including bibliographic instruction in an art library strongly preferred.
Awareness of cross-disciplinary issues in an art library.
