I would suggest that this conversation continue on ARLIS-L since it is relevant to most (if not all) ARLIS librarians, not just those who are members of the Academic Division.

Nina et Al.,

This is great news and thanks to everyone who has sent in these excellent comments.  I have not yet had time to compile the most recent additions to our list of issues but they are fascinating.  Lets form this into a "task force" to continue working on the topic with an eye to leveraging Nina's access point.  I have had some contact with CSA regarding this idea, so I think that talks with both EBSCO and CSA right now at ALA Seattle and before ARLIS Atlanta might be fruitful.

To all who were interested, I will keep and forward the emails to a new list serve that Rijn Templeton will be announcing soon for the Academic Libraries Division.  That way we can firm up our own needs and have a proposal ready to work on in Atlanta.   I think this might be a main agenda item with both the Academic Library Division and the Collections discussion Group.  I will work with the Atlanta conference team to get us some meeting space.

Who might be going to Seattle that is interested in this topic?  Please let me know.

thanks to all,

Our Collection Development officer has told me that our Ebsco

try to add to their databases. She has suggested that if I come up with
a list of the top 2 dozen titles art titles, perhaps they might work on
some. So... what full-text titles would be on your most-wanted list?
Include title, publisher and maybe a few words on why the title is so
vital.

I don't know if these discussions about art journals are taking place
on more general library discussion lists, but the art librarians ARLIS
list has recently had messages posted about the dearth of full text
journals in the arts...

Subject:      Full text Journals

Dear Colleagues,

I know that particularly in Academic Libraries we are always
pressured to find Full-text journal articles.  Often, the packages
that our libraries purchase contain few, if any important full text
journals in the Arts (with obvious and notable exceptions).  Thus,
Fine Arts Libraries are left behind in the online library environment

and often overlooked in funding initiatives.

After listening to a discussion of the new CSA Illustrata product
which will make available scientific images in full text journals, I
wondered if an opportunity has come to leverage more full text
availability for Arts journals. At least four major Art and
Architecture databases (Avery, BHA, DAAI, and ArtBibModern) are
currently available through CSA Cambridge Scientific Abstracts.  Will

CSA also be making images in art and architecture journals available
through CSA Illustrata?  I think it would be a good time to talk
about this.

I would like to see ARLIS form a Task Force to leverage more online
access in our field.  Perhaps we could also collaborate with our
colleagues in ACRL-ARTS and VRA to present a stronger presence.  I
would hope that we could meet with our colleagues in the Avery and
BHA User Groups in Atlanta to start the ball rolling.

Would anyone else be interested in such a group/task force?  Is this
something the Board would find useful?

thanks,

lucie
