Anyone interested in finding out more about arthistoricum.net may also like to read Rüdiger Hoyer's article in the next Art Libraries Journal (vol.32 no.1 2007).  Publication due mid-January.

Subject: Re: [ARLIS-L] Virtual Catalogue for Art History

Colleagues,

Please note that I had trouble submitting this posting.  Apologies in advance if it appears twice!

Re the discussion of the Virtual Catalogue for Art History (VKK), it's worth noting that this is one of several facets of the admirable portal site, arthistoricum.net (see

http://www.arthistoricum.net/).   Like its several facets, this is available in multiple languages including English; see the flags in the upper right hand corner or go directly to http://www.arthistoricum.net/index.php?id=7&L=1.  For background information on arthistoricum.net - a product of a collaboration between the Zentralinstitut fuer Kunstgeschichte, the University of Heidelberg Library, and other affiliated institutions, see "About us" (English) at http://www.arthistoricum.net/index.php?id=81&L=1

Among other very promising resources to which this site provides access are:

Art-Guide - a searchable directory of more than 2000 art history web sites and with helpful definitions of organizational names, etc. English version at http://www.arthistoricum.net/index.php?id=11&L=1

Art-Dok - a nascent self-service, fulltext publication platform for art history with a growing array of articles, many of them submitted by their authors as electronic reprints of pieces published in journals etc.  The interface for Art-Dok seems to exist in German only at this point.  See http://archiv.ub.uni-heidelberg.de/artdok/

ARTicles Online - based on the VKK union catalog but focusing on indexing of articles in art history journals published exclusively online. English page: http://www.arthistoricum.net/index.php?id=235&L=1

New acquisitions lists - assembled from major art libraries worldwide. English page: http://www.arthistoricum.net/index.php?id=8&L=1

Finally, the site offers an RSS feed for staying current.

Worth a look!

Best,

Max Marmor
