Reference/Instruction Librarian
The Illinois Institute of Art – Chicago,
an applied art and design college with programs in advertising, animation,
culinary arts, digital media, fashion marketing and design, game art, interior
design, and visual communications, seeks a creative candidate with strong
customer service skills to fill the position of Reference/Instruction
Librarian.
Responsibilities:
Provide
reference assistance to a culturally and academically diverse student
population, develop and implement library orientation and specialized
instruction sessions, perform collection development for applied arts and
general subject areas, maintain the library website, and supervise student
workers as needed.
Qualifications:
The
candidate must have a graduate degree in library science from an ALA-accredited
school, a firm understanding of reference principles and tools, excellent
online database searching skills, supervisory ability, and experience working
at a reference desk, preferably in an academic setting. The candidate
should be service-oriented with excellent communication skills and have a
demonstrated knowledge of art, architecture, design fields, basic business
reference topics and experience developing, organizing, and maintaining
web-based resources. Some evening and weekend hours and committee work are
required.
