The July 1997 issue
of _Hali_ magazine has an article about shyrdak rugs in it. This
periodical is all about textiles from the Islamic world, so other
issues might cover Kyrgyz textiles.
Issue no. 8 of
_Selvedge_ magazine had an article on textiles from Uzbekistan, "On the
Silk Road"; the countries share a border, so perhaps there's some
mention of shyrdak or a comparable technique.
Have you tried the journal _Silk Road Art and Archaeology_?
The book _Art of Silk Road 2002_, edited by Leslie E. Ashby, sounds promising.
On-line, there almost as many hits for shirdak as shyrdak.
The International Feltmakers Association might be of some assistance.

I'm assisting a student doing research on a particular kind of
felt-making process native to Kyrgyzstan, called "shyrdak".
While there are a few websites out there, this is a somewhat esoteric
topic and I'm not having any luck finding reliable print sources. Does
anyone know of any books or articles (in English) dealing with shyrdak?
