Greetings friends,

http://www.pch.gc.ca/progs/cpsc-ccsp/sc-cs/anthem_e.cfm

I provide a link to the Canadian Heritage/Patrimoine canadien web site
which allows you to see the text of "O Canada." On this page there is a
link that will play the anthem while you read the following email. It makes
wonderful listening. Singing along is quite fun and is encouraged.

Following the excellent announcement of LAC/BAC regarding their decision to
continue creating series authority records -- see below -- I was ruminating
this fine Saturday morning on some of my favorite series and on the notion
of the series publication in general.

Two immediately came to mind -- Phaidon's excellent Themes and Movements
and their Contemporary Artists. I have always found these titles to be
first rate works, well written, well researched, and, joy, well designed.
I'm sure many of you are familiar with them. The Themes and Movements title
on Arte Povera is on my desk now. Its Documents section provides an
excellent collection to primary texts of the movement.

Cheers to all,

Peter Blank

LAC Decision on Series Authority Records

Although LAC supports the goal of more cost-effective cataloguing and is
undertaking its own review of policies, LAC has decided not to follow LC's
recent decision to cease the creation of series authority records. The
results of a costing analysis and consultation with the Canadian library
community and with the public service areas of LAC indicate that the
benefits of controlled series access points and authorities outweigh the
cost of their creation.
